If gold had a smell, what would it be? The Comme des Garcons folks might just have found out…

Gold might not be the whiffiest of elements, but that hasn’t deterred design mavericks and all-round arbiters of cool, Comme des Garcons, from trying to find out what it would smell like, given the chance. The Japanese brand have come up with their latest fragrance - named 8 88 - with the idea of the ‘smell of gold’ in mind. Inspired by the mythical and magical associations of gold, the Comme boys combined saffron, pepperwood and coriander with the rich scents of geranium, amber and incense to come up with a romantically scented take on the shiny stuff. We’re loving the opulently fragranced candle; it’s fabulously luxurious like, well, gold really. Funny that!

Fresh from their stint creating a budget-friendly and fashion-forward line for online retailer Oli.co.uk, British design aces PPQ have hooked up with master shirt-maker Ben Sherman to produce a capsule collection of five dresses in honour of the 50 years the brand has been in existence. Each dress pays homage to styles from one of the five decades – from 1960s mods to 1970s rock ’n’ roll stars, to our favourite, this ‘noughties’ indie-inspired lace and silk number.

Remember the days before ghd? When frizzy hair and misplaced kinks were the norm and we were all that little bit, well, less groomed. If you’re one of the unlucky (and frankly, foolish) gals who’s still managing to survive without your own pair of ghd stylers (as those in the know now call them), here’s a nifty excuse for you to treat yourself to some: They now come in particularly fetching shades of glossy patent black and white. The new ‘dark’ and ‘pure’ styles will be in salons from mid-May priced around £135 – well it’s a small price to pay for coiffing perfection wouldn’t you say?
