SS08 Accessories Report
While woman cannot live by accessories alone, every lady worth her Birkin knows that it’s those carefully chosen extras that take a look to the next level. Where accessories were concerned this was a season for fun, showing off and plain old being silly, and we certainly weren't complaining.
The catwalk’s summer shoes were sculptural, statement-making pieces, and while peep-toes ruled the roost, anything went as long as it was bright, colourful and loud. Heels were stylised - moulded into fanciful, eccentric shapes and decorated with diamante, feathers and even purses (see Chanel’s silver beauties).
Chunky, bold and quirky were the themes for jewellery – necklaces were there to make a point and wristwear came in the form of huge, oversized bangles moulded from Perspex and wood. When it came to bags, it was all about the clutch, in every size, shape, colour and fabric you can think of; teeny tiny bags to humongous Fendi numbers in snakeskin, leather, gold, patent - you name it, we saw it.
In other news, sunglasses were mainly round – as seen at Temperley and Ferregamo – and while belts ranged from skinny to ultra wide and from tribal to eccentric (Marc Jacobs’ lego belt, anyone?), all were worn cinching those waists high. Headwear was also making waves - think turbans, headscarves and floppy hats. Oh, and did we mention the return of the corsage? But this time around, worn in your hair and as big as you like. Time to get shopping, we feel…
