Meet Georgie

As a personal trainer and wellbeing coach, my aim is to help my clients feel great and look fantastic. My approach is a holistic one so I treat the body and mind as one. If you've got a question you'd like me to answer...fire away!

Since moving in with my partner just two months ago I’ve put on a stone! When I lived alone the cupboards and fridge where full of fruit, veg and pulses, now it’s all crisps, beer and cheese! How can our very different diets work together? Can I persuade him to start eating healthily and stop myself from trying to match his portions?

Not only would it would be good for you to get back to your old eating habits but it would be good to persuade your partner to make some changes in his dietary habits for his own health. It’s very easy to eat what is available in the fridge especially if you allow yourself to get very hungry as it’ even more likely that you will go for the poor quality foods. In order to persuade your partner to make some changes to his diet it could be useful to point out the health risks of eating a diet that is low in quality and nourishment and how this may affect his health in the long term. But ultimately, the decision to choose a healthier lifestyle has to come from the individual as this is the only way they will stick to a new diet.

Rather than lecturing him on the benefits of a healthy diet, persuade him via his stomach. Start with stocking up the fridge again with healthy options such as fresh fruit, veggies, organic meat, fish and pulses - and seek out some good recipes to cook. This will not only get you back into your healthy eating habits but may also persuade your partner to change his habits as there are tasty alternatives. It’s advisable not to make your partner change too rapidly; leave some packets of crisps and the cheese in the fridge so you – and your partner - don’t feel too deprived and end up running to the take-away. To help control portion size control you need to recognise when you feel full. This can take up to twenty minutes, eat slowly and take your time to chewing to allow the digestive juices to be stimulated. Start with less food on your plate to combat any empty plate syndrome you might have.

Planning ahead can really help combat unhealthy eating. Find some healthy recipes for the week then write your shopping list for the week and stock up on healthy snacks. In order to loose the stone that you have gained, it is also important to introduce an exercise routine into your week. This should include a 30 minute walk at the start of everyday to kick start your metabolism, make you feel energised and improve your fitness levels.
