I had a friend around for dinner last night;

it meant missing a gym session, but hanging out with mates is, in my opinion, far better for your long-term health than huffing and puffing it out on the rowing machine. It’s certainly a lot more fun. It was a very civilised affair – homemade Thai curry and homemade carrot cake for pud all washed down with nothing stronger than mint tea. The best thing (apart from the splendid company) was not obsessing about what was on my plate and imaging the uphill running I’d have to do to work off a coconut-milk-laden dinner. Have I finally put food in perspective?

Cupcakes

I’m back!

No, I haven’t been trapped under a treadmill or lost under a mountain of KitKat wrappers for the past couple of weeks, I’ve just been trying to get on with life. Writing about my weight loss bid was beginning to feel a bit obsessive. I was literally thinking about food – when to eat it, what not to eat, how to work it off – 24/7. The final straw came when I had a dream where The Boy turned into a cupcake in front of me and I ate him! Fortunately I didn’t wake up the next day to find him covered in bite marks. But I’ve been ‘refocusing’ and hopefully, I’ve reached a healthier state of mind (and body). So, I’m going to continue blogging about my continuous battle with the bulge but hopefully a little less hysterically.

This weekend I’m vowing to work my butt off,

quite literally, but I got off to a bad start yesterday when I met friends for dinner. They all wanted curry and who was I spoil their spicy, oily dreams? Of course there are damage limitation strategies a more organised and committed dieter could make in these situations, but by the time we sat down and ordered I was practically munching the menu with hunger. So several poppadoms, a nan bread, more than enough fried rice, a veg jalfrezi and a couple of bottles of Cobras later and it’s no wonder I’m carrying a little curry baby this morning. I shall be hitting the gym with a vengeance once the curry has settled down – I’m not letting this weekend slide into a lardy write-off.
