Living With Size Zero

Back to Well-Being
Carolyn Morris

Earlier this year, as part of the Extraordinary Weight Stories season, Sky Real Lives followed Carolyn Morris after she lost a stone and dropped several dress sizes. We catch up with her to see if she’s still Living With Size Zero

Carolyn lost a stone in just three weeks after a stomach bug over Christmas left her unable to eat. She dropped to a size zero and her boyfriend loved her tiny new figure. We caught up with Carolyn to find out if she’s maintained her low weight and if not, what her boyfriend says about her bigger waistline. This is her story…

“I loved being a size zero. I weighed 7 stone after my illness and even though I felt terrible, so unhealthy and lacking in energy, I really loved the way I looked, especially as my boyfriend thought I looked better than ever. But I’ve put the stone that I lost back on gradually over the past few months and am now back to a size 8. Although I preferred my body when I was lighter, it would be a ridiculous to try and maintain such a low weight and completely unfeasible – I’d have to be so strict with myself and even though I’ve always been slim, I couldn’t maintain that level of discipline. I wanted to concentrate on getting better and having energy again.

If I could, though, I would love to be that slim all the time. My stomach looked fantastic when I was a size zero – it was practically concave. It would have been great to go on a bikini holiday when I was that skinny!

I’ve always been careful with what I eat. I never say I’m on a diet; I just try and avoid foods that I know are bad for me. I don’t keep chocolate, sweets or ice cream (my weakness!) in the house so I’m not tempted if I suddenly get a craving. I don’t even walk down those aisles in the supermarket; if I see sweets or cakes I want them.

I don’t deprive myself though. I eat treats on really special occasions. I absolutely love ice cream and if I’m on holiday then I’ll treat myself to one.

I’m a creature of habit, so my diet doesn’t change that much from day to day. On a typical day, I’ll eat for breakfast rice krispies and a coffee, a chicken salad sandwich with no butter for lunch and for dinner usually steak and chips or chicken stir fry with vegetables followed by an apple for dessert.

If I’ve been eating out a lot or feel like I’ve been over doing it, then I’ll have quinoa soup for a few days. I’m rubbish at cooking, but it’s so simple and easy to make – just quinoa, chicken and vegetables. It’s so nourishing and really low-calorie so it stops me piling on pounds.

Although I thought I looked better thinner, I wasn’t impressed by my boyfriend’s reaction. There I was, really not well and he was getting horny looking at my new figure! I was like hang on a minute, I’m feeling terrible, how can you like me like this when I feel so bad! I’ve always known he’s likes slim women; he loves a really small waist. I’ve always had a naturally small waist, but when I was 7st he liked the way my hip bones jutted out!
